EMILY serves coffee behind the counter as LENA approaches.

LENA
(excitedly)
Hey, Em! Can I grab a minute of your time?

EMILY
(smirking)
Of course, Lena. What's on your mind?

LENA

Remember when I used to talk about becoming a musician?

EMILY
(nodding)
Yeah, I remember. You had big plans back then.

LENA

I've been thinking about the dreams we had (sighing) when we were younger.

EMILY

(sighs)
Yeah, but life has a funny way of changing things. I got caught up in the routine, and music took a backseat.
It happens to the best of us.

LENA
(smiling)
That's what I've been thinking! I can't shake this feeling that I need to reengage with music.

EMILY
I think that's a fantastic idea, Lena. You've always had a talent for it.

LENA
(gratefully)
Thanks, Em.

But you know I meant more you!

Emily stands before a row of books, her fingers tapping on an unseen keyboard in the air. A book falls from the shelf into her hands, its pages fluttering open. Her gaze fixates on a worn spot where her finger fits perfectly, like a missing puzzle piece. This palimpsest of her past sparks a memory, and her fingers begin to dance, mimicking the keys of a piano. The melody transports her back to a time of forgotten aspirations.
